Ohhh…ahhh…you need to know more!

Back cover blurbs catch our attention, draw us in, and make us buy the book. At least they do for me. lol It could be the subject that draws my attention, or the hint of something so mysterious I have to buy the book to find out more. With my own books, I have publishers who write the blurb for me and others who want the author to write the blurb themselves. Who else knows your book better, right? Well, I’m going to tell you something so shocking you’ll probably laugh. I hate writing blurbs. That’s right, I do. I have one chance at grabbing your attention.

What if I make it sound boring? What if they can’t tell that the book is loaded with secrets? Should I give away exactly what makes this a paranormal?

I’m going to share the newest blurb I have with you. This is for my book To Play or Obey?. It is a full-length paranormal novel. You might remember me referring to it by the name of Peckerwood. (That’s where the story takes place…Peckerwood, Washington) Now, it’s too late for you to tell me you hate it, that it’s boring, and it doesn’t grab your attention. That’s okay. I’d still like to share it with you. :-)

To Play or Obey? – Coming November 19th, 2010

An all-expenses-paid trip to a BDSM town called Peckerwood in Washington turns into an erotic romance author’s dream. Gabriella Torraine will be able to do all the research she needs for her erotic vampire stories, as well as learn about a lifestyle that has always secretly fascinated her.

Not all is what it seems in Peckerwood, but Mayor Dick is bound and determined to win over the submissive Gabby before he lets the carefully hidden secret out. Will Gabby trust, love, and believe him enough to remain in Peckerwood once she learns the truth?

Wow…so cool!

To writing! lol On Friday, I started writing a great scene on my current wip. I went to bed that night visualizing exactly how it would play out, and on Saturday real life took over. I had relatives stop by the house, which I was really happy about. Then last night hubs needed attention. This morning, I’m biting my nails wanting to start writing, but once again things keep popping up and dragging me away from the computer. Most of the time I have the weekends planned out and I know I won’t be able to snatch big blocks of time, but I really want to write this scene.

This is one time that I can’t wait for Monday to come so I can get back in the groove.

In the meantime, I swear I’m going to keep this scene fresh in my mind. I’m writing about werewolves. I find myself studying our three dogs. Our old dog is anything but werewolf like. She’s deaf, half blind, and she can’t even smell bacon cooking. My dog (she’s claimed me, but I’m still making up my mind 5 years later if she’s really my dog. lol) has an unusual habit of not letting me out of her sight. So, I’m paying close attention to how she uses her enhanced vision to view the world, and ignoring the way she whines if I hide from her. The big St. Bernard… *sigh* He’s stealthy. This shoe stealing, chicken grabbing, sneaky canine has given me insight on how difficult it must be for a big wolf to be free but invisible. If the St. Bernard can do it, werewolves must be the James Bond of the canine world.

So, if someday you read a book from me about werewolves, and you recognize the personalities behind the wolves…blame the three mutts that live at my house!

They love it, they really do!

I have received such wonderful reviews for Twice Her Age. I’m so happy, I could just burst! Here are a few samplings, and I’ll include the links so you can read the whole review at the reviewers website.

5 Hearts at The Romance Studio

http://www.theromancestudio.com/reviews/reviews/twiceheragewood.htm

Ms. Wood sets the pages on fire with a deliciously sensual, tender, emotionally moving and erotic story featuring two characters who are well-rounded and well thought out. The instant chemistry between Debbie and Mick is pure perfection and the building and depth of their relationship is dynamic, warmly poignant, realistic, and dramatic and honestly presented both the ups and downs for the reader’s enjoyment. Both Mick and Debbie are committed to making their relationship a lasting one and it’s interesting to see how friends and business associates view and respond to the couple. Ms. Wood doesn’t hold anything back with this story; the action, dialogue and the emotions of these characters are so riveting that readers will be on the edge of their seat in anticipation of what’s ahead for Mick and Debbie. The incredible heated love scenes are wickedly erotic and compelling.

5 Angel Review at Fallen Angel Reviews

http://fallenangelreviews.com/2010/July/bella-twiceherage.htm

Twice Her Age is a delightfully sexy read for a hot summer night. It’s somewhat brief, but Abby Wood does a stellar job giving her characters the proper level of depth and emotion. Debbie’s friend’s seemed to be a bit on the mature side, but it was good to see them capitulate with a modicum of grace once they realized how much Mick meant to her. Like all relationships, there was enough conflict in the budding romance of Mick and Debbie to be believable and the resolution was endearing. A great story! Ms. Wood is an author now on my radar screen. I can’t wait to give her other work a read.

The interaction between Debbie and Mick is well written and you can see that both of these characters really want the relationship to work.

Chivalry? Macho man? Duty?

Is chivalry dead? Are signs of chivalry just a macho man showing off? Do men have a sense of duty to protect their woman?

In the good old days, a man always opened a door for a woman, helped her into the chair, and provided the hankerchief in times of trouble. As women, we’ve made great strides in independence. We’ve lost some of the helplessness of days gone by. Men have learned we are strong enough to open a door, we sit where we want to sit, and we now have Kleenex in our purse.

I personally like a man who takes the extra steps to protect me. Even though my hubs knows I can take care of myself, it makes me feel feminine, loved, and cherished to let him do certain things. While writing on my latest wip about werewolves, I found myself wanting to create the little things that show a man taking care of his woman. That’s what alpha’s do, and I think deep down, women like a man to step up and take up the position of protector.

To draw an idea of what men can do now, I thought up everything my hubs does for me or what I know men do for my friends.

For me, my hubs has to sleep on the side of the bed nearest the bedroom door. Why? He says if anyone breaks into the house, he’ll be between me and the intruder. When we walk on a sidewalk, he walks on my left to keep me away from danger (other people, cars, ect). He’s always been the breadwinner of the family. He doesn’t expect me to do the hard chores like chopping wood, castrating the pigs, dehorning the goats, or changing the oil in the car. He goes to bat for me against anyone…even if I’m wrong, it doesn’t matter. He supports me just because I’m his wife.

I have a friend whose husband doesn’t let her drive alone after dark. If I meet her for a late dinner, he’ll bring her to the restaurant or she’ll make arrangements for me to pick her up because she knows this is important to him. I have a cousin who does not permit anyone to cuss in front of his wife. She cusses like a trucker, but out of respect for his wife, he doesn’t allow it around her.

Chivalry is an old fashioned term, but I still think it is alive and well today. Do you? Do you like men who want to protect or would you prefer them to let you take care of yourself?

Have free time? What do you do?

After a wonderful weekend, and having my hubby home yesterday, which made it feel like a long weekend, I was able to pull myself away from the computer and enjoy something other than writing. *gasp* I know, shocking, huh? What did I do? I went swimming in our creek. The weather was wonderful and in the low 90′s. The water was perfect. I swam, floated with the current, tickled a couple fish, and relaxed.

I love days where I can enjoy the other things that interest me. Taking the motorcycle or quad on the trails around the property is another thing that I love doing. I lose myself amongst the trees and the noise of the engine. Sometimes I like to ride with the whole family, and other times, I like to go alone. I also love to play tennis. I’ve been playing since I was six years old, and I imagine I will still be one of those hardcore tennis players when I’m seventy. This is the first summer that I skipped out of playing competitive tennis. I miss it, and know that I’ll make the time to join the ranks again next summer.

Last thing I enjoyed doing this weekend was deck sitting. Some of you might call this porch sitting. I say deck, because well…it’s a deck. lol A glass of Bailey’s over ice in my hand, a comfortable lounger, and a swift breeze blowing through and I can watch time sail right on by me. I think I like the way we all dream when we’re sitting out there. I get to hear plans that my kids have made, wishes for their future, and every once in awhile, they’ll share a secret. Hubby and I do the same thing. We reconnect, dream, and share our intimate thoughts. This isn’t just a summertime thing. We bundle up and sit out on the deck in the winter too.

What do you do when you have free time? Do you use the time wisely and enjoy the things you love?
