Planning the sex scene

I’ve noticed lately the books I am reading have almost the same sex scenes in them. Don’t get me wrong, they are good…really good. Yet, I notice that depending on the kink, they all fall into categories. For bdsm, you’ve got club scenes, private bedroom sex, and social gathering sex. For regular sex between male/female, you have bedroom sex, house sex, and the occasional car sex.

I want to vamp it up, make it different. I’ve been making a conscious effort to make my stories different in that area. I’ve had my characters have sex in the barn, start on the back of a horse, in the rain, in the middle of the road, on a fishing dock…to name a few. I want to think outside the box and instead of using the typical toys, I want to see food, utensils, things you might find in a junk drawer being used.

You all have been brilliant and so generous on helping me with ideas, giving me a little background on what you’d like to see for your particular kink. I want to ask you another question.

What kind of sex scenes do you want to read? Do you want the typical or do you want to read something unique? Feel free to post it here or shoot me an email abbywood@authorabbywood.com I’d love to hear what readers want.

My husband and I were brainstorming a topic for my blogging tomorrow and he suggested this exact topic. I am so thrilled to see someone asking the readers what they want. I will have to check back to see what your replies are.

In my latest contemporary romance I went with a bathroom sex scene. Not as adventurous as yours but now I am surely challenged to think of something unique.

Oh cool! We must see the same need. As writers we are always looking for that unique idea, but sometimes we write the paranormal or the historical and it is hard to set it apart. I think having the sex scenes unique will set a “popular” book theme apart from the rest.

      Thanks for posting. =)
